Yesterday, the Supreme Court opened for business set to rule on the most controversial and possibly divisive cases in the Court’s history.
Now with the installation of Justice Neil Gorsuch by President Trump, the Supreme Court is back to its original 5-4 majority, based on ideology. Gorsuch replaced staunch conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away nearly one year ago. However the court could become more partisan as Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is a moderate republican, could retire.
The Court will vote on a number of contentious issues such as the travel ban, immigration, gerrymandering, religious liberty, and cell phone privacy.
According to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, “There is only one prediction that is entirely safe about the upcoming term, and that is it will be momentous.”
