The Deadliest Massacre in United States History

In a span of 15 minutes, an enjoyable evening filled with joy and happiness at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, quickly turned into the deadliest massacre in United States History.

According to witnesses, at about 10:08 p.m. local time Sunday, the outdoor venue holding 22,000 country music fans was interrupted by repeated shots of gunfire.

The gunman, authorities identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, which was directly adjacent to the concert grounds. .

After fifteen minutes of continuous bullets being shot out at concert-goers, officers made contact with Paddock outside of suite 32135 of the resort. Upon exchanging gunfire for a brief time, police held back and waited for the arrival of SWAT to proceed.

Police said officers “breached the hotel room,” which was the location of where Paddock executed his plan, and “found the suspect dead.”

In the hotel room, 23 weapons were found- including multiple rifles with scope attachments.

Currently, the massacre has left 59 people dead and at least 527 injured, however, the death toll may increase in the coming days.

At the present time, no motives has been determined, and police believe the gunman acted alone.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, Sunday night’s massacre in Las Vegas lists as the 273rd shooting in 2017. Regardless of political affiliation, religion, race, and all other unjustified variables that divide us as a country, we all can agree that an end to these senseless acts of violence must come- sooner rather than later.
